A number of Western Australians have take centre stage on Friday after plenty of top seeds were bundled out in a dramatic day at the WA Amateur.
Kiran Day has found himself in another quarter final after upsetting top seed Will Florimo in their round of 16 clash. The Cottesloe member has been joined by Ben Ferguson and Fred Lee, with the pair set to clash in a mouth-watering quarter final matchup.
Ferguson will be looking to atone for last year after receiving the medal before losing to Min Woo Lee in the semi-final.
Lee looks a serious contender going into the latter part of the event, defeating Pat Sevilla 4&2, before finding his best form against Josh Herrero 4&3.
There were no such issues for top seeds in the women’s draw, with Kirsten Rudgeley and Abbie Teasdale easily moving through the draw.
After firing a course record the previous day, Rudgeley accounted for Alison Eather 2&1, before taking out ninth-seed Isabella Leung 2&1 in a tightly fought contest.
Defending champion Rudgeley will face off against fellow junior-state teammate Yeah-Jin Lee in the semi-final, with a spot in the Sunday’s final up for grabs.
Teasdale picked up from where she left off yesterday, defeating veteran Janine Northrop 7&6 in a dominant encounter from the Royal Fremantle member.
The star then took care of Georgia Garner-Dart 5&4 in a glimpse into the future for Western Australian female golf.
The youngster is yet to make a major final, however is continuing a career-best year after breaking the Wanneroo course record in January of this season.
Georgia Shears was the last female to make the final four, with her day highlighted by a 22nd hole victory over favourite Kathryn Norris.
In a major upset, Yokine local Haydn Barron was narrowly beaten one-up by number 30 seed Robbie Morrison, ending his dream of a fairytale win at his home club.
Jose De Sousa was the other main casualty in the morning round, with the number six seed going down to youngster Tom Addy capping off an exciting week for the future star.
Journeyman Paul Chappell has also found himself in a men’s quarter final after a round of 16 win over Addy. The veteran will draw on plenty of experience as he looks to reach the last four on Saturday.
Number two seed Will Hefferman survived the carnage to book a finals spot against Simon Liddell, while Adam Brady and Matthew Cheung are the other remaining males.
The men will be the first to tee of on Saturday morning, with Day and Brady set to clash from 7.30am.
