The stage is set for a thrilling finale to the 2018 Junior Pennants season, with upset victories over the weekend giving plenty of a teams a chance at the title in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Division One competitions.
Joondalup and Royal Fremantle will again battle it out for the Boys’ Division One title this weekend after Mount Lawley caused an upset win over last year’s runners up, Royal Fremantle, at Gosnells Golf Club.
A 4.5 -2.5 loss has left the side equal on six points with defending champions Joondalup, with just the single round remaining, while in the battle of the young guns Josh Greer defeated Connor McKinney 5&3 in their clash.
The Girls’ Division One is just as tight with Gosnells and Mount Lawley Devils equal on top with six points each. If both sides were to lose this weekend, Mount Lawley Angels could sneak into contention, currently trailing by just one point.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard continued to lead her Gosnells side towards a championship with a 3&2 win as the number one seed over Abbie Teasedale of Royal Fremantle, while the Angels and Devils also recorded easy wins at Royal Fremantle Golf Club.
Melville Glades and The Vines will face off for the Boys’ Division Two title next weekend, with the top teams playing off at Joondalup Country Club.
Both teams recorded easy victories to set up the mouth-watering clash, with Gosnells sitting in third position and unable to catch the leading sides.
Western Australian Golf Club has clinched the Boys’ Division Three competition after a dominant 4.5-1.5 win over Mount Lawley, guaranteeing the side an unassailable three-point lead at the top of the table.
Tyreece Jenkins and Liam Barclay led from the front with strong wins, before Riley Gott and Shaun Raj finished the fixture off to secure the title.
Gosnells will now only need a victory over bottom-placed Pinjarra this weekend to win the Boys’ Division Four flag, keeping their undefeated season alive with a whitewash over Sun City.
Newcomers to the Pennant competition, Pinjarra, are yet to win a game this season.
Melville Glades/South West will need a victory over Joondalup/Sun City at Kwinana Golf Club this weekend to take the title in Girls’ Division Two.
Joondalup sit unbeaten at the top of the table after a 4-1 victory over Mount Lawley, with the side sitting two points clear of Melville Glades/South West with a round to play. The two sides play each other in the final round, and if the top side wins the competition is all but over.
The final round of the Junior Pennant Season takes place this weekend, with the Boys’ Division One playing at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, while the Girls’ Division One will play off ay Kwinana Golf Club. Tee times from 7:30
