15th Jan 2018

Six WA Club golfers will be taking on some of the world’s best next month after securing a place in in the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth pro-am, after taking out the annual Club Challenge over the weekend.

Brad Taylor (Melville Glades) gained victory in the men’s South Group at Royal Perth Golf Club finishing one up over Alan Stewart (Royal Perth).

Taylor will be joined by Christina Steel (Royal Perth) after she captured the women’s title 2 & 1 over Ros Zuideveld (Collier Pines), completing a fine day for the host club.

Lee Jovanoski (Joondalup) took out the men’s North competition at Mount Lawley Golf Club, defeating Neil Bronkhorst (Mount Lawley) in the final, with smoke haze filling the air as the players completed the tournament.

Lorraine Rowley (Sea View) overcame Cath Bellemore (Nedlands) to clinch the women’s North title, in an entertaining end to the day’s proceedings.

In a new initiative this year, a Regional Group for the Club Super 6 was introduced competing at Royal Perth, with Margret River Golf Club taking out the division, defeating Pickering Brook Golf Club in the final.

Players were challenged throughout the weekend, with temperatures soaring above 36 degrees in particularly trying conditions.

Their victories earn them the right to play the championship course at Lake Karrinyup in three weeks’ time, giving the players the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of world’s best.

The tournament itself is already in its second year, capturing the attention of the golfing world in 2017 with the exhilarating format. The event culminates in a six-hole sudden death match play, with the exciting concept given an endorsement over the weekend from all club golfers.

The ISPS Handa World Super 6 begins on the 8th of February with 54 holes of traditional stroke play, with the field reduced to 24 golfers for the final round. The matchplay shootouts will then take place, before one player is left standing and crowned winner.
