Pinjarra Golf Club is aiming to tempt hundreds of non-golfers to give the game a go during the Shire of Murray’s Sport Fusion Festival in March.
The Peel-based club is staging six beginners’ clinics over the weekend of March 15-16, targeting all demographics from the age of six upwards.
With a maximum 60 places available in each clinic, as many as 240 men, women and children could be given their first taste of golf – an opportunity that Pinjarra GC’s General Manager Mitchell Sheather says was too good to turn down.
“Golf is such a unique sport: you are never too old or too young to begin your journey,” he told GolfWA. “It provides those participating the opportunity to make lifelong friendships and greatly contributes to improving one’s mental and physical health.
“We’re extremely excited to be involved with the Murray Fusion Festival and we’re confident that anyone who attends one of our clinics will thoroughly enjoy the experience.”
Shire of Murray Sport & Recreation Officer Michelle Francis welcomed Pinjarra’s involvement, saying: “It’s fantastic to see Pinjarra Golf Club supporting this event and hosting come-and-try activities for all ages.
“This club is always eager to engage with the community, and it truly shows in their willingness to be part of any community-driven event.”
In total, 13 different sports and pastimes will be showcased during the Sport Fusion Festival, including sessions on touch football, volleyball, croquet, carriage driving, pilates, disc golf, lawn bowls and even speedcubing.
This project has received grant funding from the Australian Government managed by the Australian Sports Commission. All sessions are free but must be booked online. Full details here.
