WA state representative Alice Tonts has joined the GolfWA team to help drive junior development initiatives.
Alice will work part-time alongside Jordan McSkimming to deliver the MyGolf in Schools program and Crunch&Sip Junior Tour events until August, when she commences a golf scholarship at the University of Toledo.
She takes over the role from fellow Mount Lawley GC member Erina Tan, who moved to the USA to play college golf in January.
Eighteen-year-old Alice has been part of the GolfWA Talent Development Program since 2021 and made her state debut for WA at the Australian Junior Interstate Teams Matches last April, winning three out of her four matches.
Having progressed through the GolfWA junior training and development system herself, Alice says she can’t wait to share her love of the game with the next generation.
“I’m so excited to become part of the GolfWA team,” she said. “My first competitive golf was on the Junior Tour and the game has given me so many great opportunities since then.
“It’s nice to be able to give something back, and I’m really looking forward to doing all I can to help more kids discover a passion for golf.”
Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Game Development & High Performance Manager, added: “Alice is not only a great role model, but already has experience of assisting Emma Liebenau in coaching juniors at Mount Lawley. She will be a real asset.
“We’re committed to providing career pathways for women and girls whenever possible, so we’re delighted to have Alice join us for a short while in what we hope will be a long and fulfilling career in golf for her.”
