Wembley Golf Course has become the first golf course in Western Australia to achieve silver status under the revised Waterwise Golf Program.
The program – a joint initiative between the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Western Australia and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation – promotes sustainable water use across the state’s golf courses.
Wembley earned its silver status through advanced management of water consumption and improved turf management techniques to reduce water demand, with course General Manager Jason Roach proud of the accolade.
“This achievement highlights our dedication to reducing water consumption while maintaining the quality of our course,” he said. “We’re committed to best practices that benefit both our golfers and Perth’s future.
“In a drying climate, securing groundwater through sustainable practices is vital. Our efforts contribute to creating a liveable and resilient Perth.”
In addition, Carramar GC, Wanneroo GC and The Western Australian GC have received bronze-level accreditation, matching the achievement set by Wembley and Hartfield GC in previous years.
All the courses are located within the Gnangara groundwater area, which supplies more than 40% of Perth’s drinking water, irrigation for one-in-four household bores and almost all water for sports and green recreational spaces.
