The Vines, Sea View, Wanneroo and Hartfield claimed the Women’s Senior Pennants titles for 2024 – but not without some very close contests on an exciting final day.
A countback was required to separate three teams in the Central Black Division after The Vines, Gosnells and Royal Fremantle ended the final day tied atop the table on eight points after five rounds of matches.
Remarkably, all three teams also had identical records of 13 matches for and 11 against but it was The Vines who pipped their rivals to the flag after some complicated calculations.
A tense final day also played out in the North Division with a winner-takes-all clash between two unbeaten sides Wanneroo and Chequers.
Having won all four of their opening encounters to Wanneroo’s three wins and a half, Chequers held a slender lead at the top of the table going into the final round of matches.
However, home advantage counted for Wanneroo (pictured above) as they ran out 3-1 winners to secure the flag and send their rivals home empty-handed.
Matters were more cut and dried in the South and Central Gold Divisions, with the leading teams going into the final rounds producing the required wins to seal the deals.
Sea View recorded a fine 3-1 win over Royal Fremantle to top the Central Gold standings with 9 points, while Hartfield eked out a 2.5-1.5 win over Rockingham to win the South Division with a 100% record from their five matches.
“Congratulations to our winners and thanks to all the clubs who supported this year’s competition,” said GolfWA Operations Manager Neil Goddard.
“It has been another exceptional season of Women’s Senior Pennants and we look forward to more of the same in 2025.”
