WA players will make up three-quarters of the Australian Olympic golf team after it was confirmed that Hannah Green and Minjee Lee will join Min Woo Lee and Jason Day at the Paris Games in August.

Day and Min Woo were named as Australia’s two representatives in the men’s Olympic competition following last weekend’s US Open, while the women’s qualifying period ended on Sunday at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Minjee and Green shared T24th at the Women’s PGA to rubber stamp their inclusion in the Olympic line-up, although both have been leading contenders to make the team for several months due to their high positions in the Rolex World Rankings.

A two-time winner on the LPGA Tour this season, world number seven Green will play in her second Olympics after narrowly missing out on a medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

“Getting the opportunity in Tokyo was an amazing experience,” said Green. “I’m super excited for Paris to be alongside Minjee as well. Both from Perth and both played junior golf together, so it’s really cool for us to both be there.

“I think we have really good vibes for the Olympics, and I’m excited to get to Le Golf National.”

Twenty-year-old Minjee Lee made her Australian Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Games

Paris will represent Minjee’s third straight appearance at the Games, the 28-year-old excited to share the Olympic limelight with her brother for the first time.

“Both of us will be there and it’s kind of nice,” said the world number 11. “It’ll be pretty exciting to represent our country out at the Olympics and it’s always such a great honour to be able to do that. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Min Woo reacted to his inclusion in the Australian Olympic team is his usual colourful style, posting on Instagram: “An Olympian?!? Man, that’s crazy. Honoured and proud to represent Australia. Let’s do some cookin’ in Paris!”

Le Golf National will host the Olympic golf tournaments, with the men’s event taking place from August 1-4 and the women’s from August 7-10.  Each field is made up of 60 players, with US duo Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda the reigning champions.
