A total of 10 WA layouts made the cut for inclusion in the Australian Golf Digest top 100 course listing for 2024-25.
The popular magazine’s 19th biennial countdown of Australia’s best courses was compiled by 277 judges, who provided detailed feedback on more than 7000 rounds of golf at 809 different courses. Judging criteria included shot options, challenge, distinctiveness, conditioning and aesthetics.
As is the norm for any top 100 listing of Australia’s greatest courses, Lake Karrinyup Country Club is WA’s highest-ranked inclusion in 17th position. This is the same ranking it held in the 2022/23 list, where judges stated that “the course continues to be a test of golf intuition and savvy navigation.”
The best-of-the-rest is Joondalup Country Club’s Quarry/Dunes course in 21st position, while Mandurah’s stunning coastal links The Cut was the third WA course to make the top 50, in 38th place.
The Western Australian Golf Club (55), Kalgoorlie Golf Course (57), Cottesloe GC (63 – pictured above), Meadow Springs (68) and Secret Harbour (91) have all climbed in the rankings since the 2022/23 list, while Royal Fremantle (95) and Albany GC (99) return to the top 100 after missing out last time.
Renovation works meant that Mount Lawley Golf Club was not included in the latest ranking after being placed 66th two years ago. The full list of WA courses in the top 100 (plus their previous ranking) is: –

For only the second time in the near-40-year history of Australian Golf Digest’s top 100, a course other than Royal Melbourne took out the coveted top spot. Cape Wickham Golf Links, located on King Island off Tasmania’s north-west coast, was rated as Australia’s number one course.
