It was a case of history repeating itself at this year’s Drummond Golf 54 Hole Classic with Royal Fremantle’s Min Woo Lee and Mount Lawley’s Hira Naveed going back to back and successfully defending their 2013 titles in 2014.
While Lee faced a spirited challenge from his club mate Cameron Jones, also of Royal Fremantle, Hira Naveed stormed to a resounding 26 stroke victory, highlighted by her brilliant 3-under final round in Busselton.
Naveed has just one blemish on her card on the final day, a bogey on the par-4 fourth hole, and made four birdies on route to her dominant victory.
Lee’s victory was set up by his opening round 67 that featured two eagles, and held on for victory as Jones made a valiant attempt to peg back the defending champion. Lee’s 3-over final round was enough to hold off Jones, who shot 73 in his final round.
Played over three rounds at Capel, Dunsborough Lakes and Busselton Golf courses, the Drummond Golf 54 Hole Classic is played for World Rankings and State Rankings Points. 68 golfers took part in the event, featuring both local golfers form the region and a large contingent from Perth travelling south to experience the best courses the South West have on offer.
