Junior World Golf Championships

19th Jul 2014

Leaderboards: 15-17 Division | 13-14 Division

WA’s Curtis Luck and Fred Lee have both finished in the top 20 of their respective divisions at the Callaway World Championships.

7 birdies were the highlight of Luck’s final round as he finished with a strong 2-under 70 at the famous Torrey Pines South Course.

Australia’s Ryan Ruffels would take the win and the World Championship for the 15-17 division, finishing two strokes ahead of the field at 5-under.

Fred Lee has a strong showing in his first international tournament, shooting rounds of 70, 71, 73 and 73 to finish in a tie for 14th in the Boys 13-14 division at Morgan Run Resort and Club.

ROUND 1

Western Australia’s two representatives have posted strong starts at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships overnight.

Competing in the 15-17 year old division at Torrey Pines, Curtis Luck of Cottesloe Golf Club shot an even par opening round to be in a tie for 10th place and just four shots off the lead.

Luck’s round featured three birdies and three bogeys, with all three bogeys coming on the back nine. This is Luck’s second straight appearance at the Callaway World Championships, and a strong performance will place the Australian Amateur runner-up in good stead ahead of August’s US Amateur.

Fred Lee (Royal Perth / Nedlands) was at the Morgan Run Resort and Club competing in the Boys 13-14 division, and sits just outside the top 20 with an opening round of 70 at 1-under par.

Lee’s impressive performance on the local circuit earned him his start at the World Championships, with the 14 year old winning three Junior Rankings events at WA Golf Club, Royal Perth and Hartfield in the past year.
