WA’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard will get the chance to live every club golfer’s dream when she tees it up at Augusta National in April.

The 22-year-old Gosnells golfer earned her invitation to compete at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur after a stunningly successful year on the US college golf circuit.

Hinson-Tolchard smashed numerous records at Oklahoma State University, won the Big 12 Women’s Championship and finished 4th in the NCAA Women’s Championship – just two strokes behind winner Rose Zhang, who is now a star name on the LPGA Tour.

On top of that, Hinson-Tolchard qualified for the US Women’s Open, represented Australia in the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship and earned her playing rights on the Epson Tour, which she will take up in May once she has completed her studies.

“It’s a dream come true,” Hinson-Tolchard told Oklahoma State University. “I’ve been wanting to play this tournament for the last three years, and I’ve been working hard to put myself in a position where I was able to get the invitation. Now, that’s become a reality, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Inaugurated in 2019, the 54-hole Augusta National Women’s Amateur features 72 of the world’s leading amateur women, with players only earning invitations through tournament wins and the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

The opening two rounds are contested at the Champions Retreat Golf Club just outside Augusta, with the final round taking place at Augusta National itself.

This year’s event takes place between April 3-6. Previous Australians to play in the event include WA’s Kirsten Rudgeley, who finished T8th in the 2022 championship. Rose Zheng won the title in 2023.
