Royal Fremantle’s Minjee Lee has risen from number 5 to the top of the World Amateur Golf Rankings after a run of top finishes in professional events over the past month.
Lee’s previous high ranking of Number 2 was achieved early last year in the wake of winning the US Girls Amateur and her first Australian Amateur title, however a run of great finishes in professional events, including a win at the Oates Victorian Open, Lee’s points average has risen to 1685, just above former number 1 Alison Lee of the United States, on a 1671 points average.
After successfully defending her Australian Amateur title in January, Lee went on to finish fifth at the NSW Open, Runner Up at the RACV Volvik Ladies Masters and 11th at the ISPS Handa Australian Open. Lee’s will now switch her focus to China, where she will play in next week’s Mission Hills World Championship on the Ladies European Tour.
Lee remains just outside the top 100 in the Rolex World Rankings, sitting at 138 after starting the year ranked at 391.
