GolfWA has announced its roster of players to represent the state in January’s South Australian Junior Amateur and Junior Masters events.
Seasoned state campaigners Amanda Gan, Valerie Khuu and Isabella Leniartek (all Mount Lawley GC) make up the girls’ team, while Nate Johnson (Joondalup CC), Spencer Harrison (Royal Perth) and Matthew McLaughlin (Lakelands CC) will compete in the boys’ events.
Of the six, only McLaughlin has not yet previously represented GolfWA, but he earns his place after a strong finish to the season that saw him come through pre-qualifying for the WA Open and finish 4th in the Drummond Golf 54-Hole Junior Classic.
Last year’s SA trip was productive for WA players with George Barclay winning the Junior Masters and Ken Gao claiming top-5 finishes in both.
Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Game Development and High Performance Manager, said: “We’re delighted to offer this opportunity to another group of up-and-coming athletes.
“The SA events are of great value for athlete development in addition to the excitement and opportunity to play the fantastic courses of Kooyonga and Royal Adelaide with strong national fields.
“George Barclay won the Junior Masters in 2023 and I am sure our juniors will be aspiring to emulate his success and bring some more honours back to WA.”
Both the SA tournaments are Junior Order of Merit ranking events. The South Australian Junior Amateur Championship takes place at Kooyonga GC on January 8-9, with the Junior Masters at Royal Adelaide on January 11-12.
