Goldfields golfers play 108 holes in a day for charity

WA state captain Connor Fewkes and seven intrepid companions have raised more than $10,000 for charity after cramming in 108 holes of golf in one day at Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

Fewkes (pictured above), teed up alongside Joost ter Veld, Connor Mallis, Craig Mitchell, Kyle Robinson, Lui Camporeale, Niall Rogan and Cathy Gaby in an attempt to raise $10,000 for the Rotary Club of Boulder’s Goldfields Family Assistance Fund.

Although it was ideal golfing weather with the temperature peaking at a manageable 26 degrees, it was still a punishing ordeal for those involved as they went on foot all day and clocked up in excess of 50km each. The group hit their first tee shots at 4.20am, before sunrise, and were finally complete just before sunset.

“My quads and calves were a bit sore the next day, but I wore joggers instead of golf shoes, so my feet were OK,” Fewkes told GolfWA. “The biggest thing for me was just how tired I was the next day. I just stayed in bed and watched movies all day!”

The effort was worth it, though, as nearly $12,000 was raised for the Goldfields Family Assistance Fund, which exists to help the families and carers of children from the Eastern Goldfields Region undergoing medical treatment away from their normal places of abode.
