Curtis Luck has picked up his second amateur title of 2014 with a convincing 5 stroke victory at the NSW Men’s 72 Hole Strokeplay.
Luck’s impressive scorecard of 68, 67, 69, 65 (269) left him at 16-under for the tournament, with his final round of 65 featuring seven birdies and just one bogey.
Gosnells’ Jarryd Felton picked up another top 5 finish in a national event with a scorecard of 71, 71, 67, 70 (279) to finish at 6-under.
It’s been an impressive January for Luck, who added the NSW Strokeplay to his Victorian Junior Masters title and his finalist appearance at the Australian Amateur. Luck started the year ranked as the World’s 739th best amateur golfer and he has already soared to 222 in a matter of weeks. Luck will climb even further on the back of this victory and will look to continue his run in the matchplay rounds as he knocks on the door of a top-100 world ranking.
Luck will take the coveted number one seed into the NSW Amateur Matchplay starting Sunday.
In the Women’s event, Hayley Bettencourt moved from outside the top ten to finish in second in a single day, shooting rounds of 72 and 73 in the final 36 holes. Queensland’s Anna Stanton will take the number one seed, winning by four strokes, while Tatiana Wijaya of Cottesloe placed fifth and Hannah Green finished in a tie for sixth spot.
