Women's 4BBB

Boyup Brook GC’s Naomi Dorrington and Sharon Nield romped to a comprehensive victory in the GolfWA Women’s 4BBB playoff.

The top 50 pairs from club qualifying competitions from across the state amassed at Wanneroo GC for the playoff, with players from sand greens and grass greens club – both regional and metropolitan – healthily represented.

The long-running competition is played in a fourball betterball format with the best score on each hole contributing to the team’s Stableford points haul. As well as state bragging rights, winners also win flights, accommodation and admission to the Australian Open, which this year takes place in Sydney from November 30-December 3.

Despite a chilly start, several teams were soon running hot and making a determined bid for the title. However, Naomi and Sharon (pictured above) were not to be denied as they posted a mammoth 51-point haul to win by five clear points from Royal Fremantle’s Alison Burton and Helen Emery.

Hamersley Ladies, represented by Jane McMann and GolfWA Director Emma Elliott, and Sandy Jackson and Shauna Stone (Kojonup GC and Quairading GC) were the best of the rest, amassing 44 points each.

“We played out of our skins today,” a delighted Naomi told GolfWA. “It’s a very different course to Boyup Brook, but it was lots of fun out there today. Now we can’t wait to watch some of the world’s best play at The Australian Open. What a prize!”
