Two of WA’s leading amateurs – Adam Brady and Josh Greer – have made the switch to the professional ranks and will make their pro debuts at this week’s Northern Territory PGA Championship.
Joondalup Country Club member Greer, aged 22, earned his card for the PGA Tour of Australasia at Q-School in April, but was undecided on how long he’d retain his amateur status. However, given his desire to make a fast start to life on tour, Greer says the right time is now.
“I did think about hanging on until October to play in the Asia-Pacific Amateur, but then I’d miss a lot of opportunities on the Aus PGA Tour,” he told GolfWA. “I’m looking forward to trying to finish as high as I can on the Order of Merit, so I just want to get out there and start competing professionally.
“I’ve loved every part of my amateur career, but I’ve played golf my whole life with the goal of being a pro and experiencing what it’s like to play in events where every shot really matters to your earnings and your ranking.”
Twenty-one-year-old Brady, a member at The Vines Golf & Country Club, has spent the last few months fine-tuning his game in Europe and believes his game is in good enough shape to cut it at tour level.
“I’m not fully exempt on the Aus PGA Tour, but I will get opportunities in a lot of events,” he told GolfWA. “I hope to use those opportunities to climb the rankings and improve my game in the coming year.
“I’ve played quite a few Aus PGA events in the past couple of years and I’ve always felt I could compete with the professionals. I know that if I work hard, my game is good enough.”
Both Greer and Brady are graduates of the GolfWA High Performance Program and have represented WA on multiple occasions. Good friends off course, the duo will both bid to win exemptions for the DP World Tour and Asian Tour at Qualifying School in the coming months.
