Curtis Luck wins Victorian Junior Masters

8th Jan 2014

Cottesloe Golf Club’s Curtis Luck has made an impressive start to 2014 with a dominating victory at the Victorian Junior Masters played at Waverly Golf Club.

Despite starting the final round with a single shot deficit to Victorian Brett Coletta, Luck quickly regained the lead he held throughout most of the most of the tournament. A late surge of three straight birdies on 14, 15 and 16 gave the WA State Boys Captain a runaway victory by seven strokes, finishing as the only player to post an under-par performance over the 72 holes at 4-under.

Luck’s victory comes in the tournament’s twentieth year, and as a Victorian Junior Masters Champion he joins an impressive list of past winners, including Australian Presidents Cup representatives Jason Day and Marc Leishman, as well as three time PGA Tour winner Aaron Baddeley.

The victory is Luck’s first National Junior Rankings win since taking out WA’s State Junior Title and Srixon Championship in 2012. Luck surrendered both of these titles in 2013 and will look to a much stronger 2014 on the back of his first interstate victory.

Golf WA’s Junior Development Officer Matt Nelson caddied for Luck during his final round 67 and was quoted as saying his final round performance was among the best golf he had ever seen.

WA would win the Teams event thanks to Luck and a top ten performance from Minwoo Lee, who finished ninth at 12-over par.
