GolfWA and the City of Albany are excited to launch the 2020 Aglime Sand Greens Championship that will be held at Riverview Golf Club.
In what is celebrated as a festival of rural and regional golf, ‘The Sand Greens’ as it is affectionately known, attracts players from all over the State with some of WA’s most decorated players having taken out the title.
The tournament has been held throughout regional Western Australia since its inception in 1981.
City of Albany CEO Andrew Sharpe is excited at the opportunity for Albany to host such a significant event.
“Albany is a vibrant and diverse region and we are looking forward to showcasing our cultural and natural assets to all participants that come to play in the 2020 Sand Greens Championship,”
“The City of Albany is excited to work with Riverview Golf Club to make sure the club and course are in fantastic condition for the event.”
GolfWA CEO Gary Thomas said sand greens golfers have a unique sense of camaraderie and enjoy travelling across the State to play different courses.
“Sand greens golf is a lot of fun. The greens are generally smaller than grass greens and are often firm and flat, requiring a unique skill to master. Riverview Golf Club is known for its charm, character and friendly volunteers and GolfWA is excited to play the Aglime Sand Greens Championship at a new course.”
“We are very much looking forward to heading South for the 2020 Aglime State Sand Greens Championship of Western Australia and working with the City of Albany to promote the region,” said Gary.
