Mount Lawley’s Jordan Jung and Royal Fremantle’s Abbie Teasdale were victorious for a second time during the July school holidays. Jung and Teasdale secured the Drummond Golf 54 Hole Junior Classic crowns after three days spent battling tough conditions in Harvey, Collie and Bunbury.
Jung, who led from Round 1 carded a final round of 70 at Sanctuary Golf Club and Resort to win by an impressive eight strokes over Joondalup’s Tom Addy.
“Although I didn’t score as well as round 1, I felt like I played better in Collie. It was tough and I scrambled well. I got rid of my driver early on in this round but still ended up in the bush. This morning at Sanctuary was hard because it was so wet and cold.”
“Overall, I very pleased with my performance, and really want to thank my Mum for driving me here and to Drummond for sponsoring this event. It is great to see the really young kids in the Smarter than Smoking Tour joining in on this tournament and so many enjoying golf. ”
Seventeen-year-old Abbie Teasdale was just as excited about her new car and independence as her win today! “
I hit it pretty well this week, had a few struggles with my putting but happy to have three steady rounds and get the win. I think I played the best on the first round in Harvey, but I really enjoyed today at Sanctuary. The weather was awful but each hole is so different and such a challenge.”
“I really appreciate the support of my home club Royal Fremantle – it has been great to get those supportive texts and posts today. It is my last year as a junior and I am very proud to secure my second win in this tournament.”
Teasdale won by two strokes over consistent performer Yeah-Jin Lee from Royal Perth, followed by Mount Lawley youngster Ruby Fry.
Jung and Teasdale join the impressive list of titleholders of this prestigious event such as Hannah Green, Minjee Lee, Min Woo Lee, Curtis Luck and Shani Waugh. It was wonderful to see Shani back on the fairways supporting her youngsters from Bunbury Golf Club as a mentor and coach.
Shani’s loyalty and commitment to developing golf in the South West is integral to the sport’s growth in the region.
GolfWA would like to thank our host clubs and wonderful volunteer support over the last three days. The weather was challenging, however, the last final nine holes in clear skies were a welcome end to a hugely successful Drummond Golf 54 hole Junior Classic.
