The sand greens of Katanning Country Club proved no obstacle for Mount Lawley superstar Kirsten Rudgeley who confidently took home the 2020 Provincial Cup this weekend. Setting a new course record of 72 in her first round, Rudgeley was thirteen strokes ahead of the pack, with fellow Mount Lawley member Eve Cohen, and Royal Perth’s Brooke Price finishing second and third respectively in the 36-hole stroke play competition.
Speaking after the event, Brooke Price noted, “I had an awesome time going down to Katanning and putting on the sand greens. The sand greens were quite challenging, to say the least, but I’ve come away with new skills and experiences.”
The final eighteen holes were played in challenging conditions, with heavy downpours and winds gusting up to fifty knots. A huge congratulations to all the ladies who managed to make it – your dedication to the sport is amazing!
Sally Carey from Albany Golf Club was a frequent visitor to the podium winning the overall Best Nett score for the 36 holes. Sally had an exceptional first round of Nett 64 alongside Albany teammate Dorothy Laffin. This secured the Albany ladies the Eileen Dawson Shield (Best Nett Aggregate scores from a Club).
Congratulations to Andrea Reynolds of Miling Golf Club, winner of the 2020 Adele Ludemann Trophy awarded to the Best Gross Sand Green player over the 36 holes. Andrea narrowly pipped Katanning local Louise Salt on a countback.
Not to break with tradition, the Country Girls maintained their stronghold securing yet another Country vs City painting for the best five Nett scores from Saturday’s round. Royal Perth member, Annie Fowler took home the coveted prize of ‘Donna’s Frock’ which saw $1,733 raised for the Royal Flying Doctor.
Katanning Country Club did an outstanding job of hosting over one hundred ladies for the 2020 Tournament, and the much loved ‘Country Bumpkin’ themed dinner on Saturday night. A huge thank you to Captain, Alyssa French and the steady stream of volunteers that made this event such a success. We look forward to the 2021 Provincial Tournament will be held at Wongan Hills Golf Club next year.
