Golfers from across Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and the UK contested the 2023 Australian Amputee Open, staged this year at Wanneroo Golf Club.
Wanneroo became the first WA venue to host the championship in almost 20 years, with 23 players teeing it up across the tournament’s 12 categories.
Long Reef Golf Club’s Stephen Prior topped the open standings to claim his fourth Australian Amputee title with a +24 54-hole total of 240. This left him 10 strokes clear of runner-up Geoffrey Nicholas (The Lakes Golf Club, NSW), with Shane Luke (Bankside GC, NSW) a further six strokes back.
Home club favourite Gary Brocket was the highest-finishing WA player in 6th place on +47 for his 54 holes. This was enough to secure him the Nett Championship crown ahead of Scott Roberts (Bribie Island GC, QLD) – Brocket’s second win in that division in consecutive years. In addition, South Korean visitor Meekyung Kim claimed the Ladies’ Championship.
