Forty-two clubs were represented at the 2020 Travel Tree Challenge playoff in the four-ball better Stableford competition hosted by Wanneroo Golf Club.
Perfect spring conditions resulted in some outstanding scores for the ladies competing for the highly sought after prize of flights, accommodation and tickets to the next Australian Women’s Open Golf Tournament. This competition is open to all country and city clubs in Western Australia with the top teams qualifying for today’s playoff.
Congratulations to the delightful ladies from Donnybrook Country Club, Sue Merritt and Jess Oakey who had an outstanding score of 53 points, the highest in the history of the Travel Tree Challenge Competition. Jess, who only took up golf late last year after being encouraged to give it a go by local friend Sue! Jess, a former State cricketer from Tassie was “just thrilled to play this beautiful course today,” and clearly these two great friends had the magic formula to take home such a sought after prize.
The runner up to Overall winners Grass Greens was awarded to Carol Redman and Jeongsook Shin from Collier Pines with an admirable 50 points. The ladies from Kojonup, Sandy Jackson and Cathy Wright took out the Sand Greens title with 45 points.
Chris Dagostino from Travel Tree warmly welcomed the finalists to Wanneroo GC and thanked them for their support of the travel industry. In these difficult times, Travel Tree are developing some tremendous WA based golfing tours and hopes the WA community will continue to support local industry. It has been an incredibly tough year for the travel industry and Golf WA are very grateful for the continued support of Travel Tree.
