Hayden Hopewell has secured the 2020 Nexus Risk WA Open Championship in a nail biting finish to the three day tournament at Royal Fremantle Golf Club. Hopewell narrowly defeated fellow amateur Haydn Barron and PGA Professional Brody Martin.
Hopewell had an outstanding final nine clocking six birdies to chase down Martin and Barron. Hopewell made birdie on the 16th to bring the trio level at five under par. The tricky Par 3 on hole 17 was the turning point when Hopewell sunk a fifteen foot put to place him in the outright lead for the first time in this 54 hole event.
Not giving up, Barron made an exceptional drive on eighteen securing a birdie which would bring the Championship down to one putt for Hopewell. Surrounded by a huge crowd of supporters, Hopewell nailed his final put to make birdie and secure the title.
I dedicate this win to my Grandpa. He’s my number one supporter and always by my side. I am so proud to get this win after coming so close last year. It’s great to win it here at my home club.
Tony Coates was crowned champion of the 2020 Nexus Risk All Abilities Challenge, after two outstanding rounds of 86 and 87.
Everyone that played in this event is a winner. I can’t wait to get back here again next year.
Really enjoyed these conditions and Royal Fremantle know how to put on a great show. Been sensational to interact with all the other All Abilities players under tournament conditions.”
Our thanks to the exceptional volunteers at Royal Fremantle Golf Club and the incredible number of spectators for supporting this premier event in the WA Golfing calendar. The final leaderboard is available to view here.
