Abbie Teasdale fired a four-under-par closing round of 70 to complete a wire-to-wire victory in the prestigious Concord Cup in NSW.
The Royal Fremantle amateur never looked back after equalling the course record on day one, her six-under-par 68 including four birdies and a hole-in-one at Sydney’s Concord Golf Club.
Teasdale followed this up with a one-under-par 73 in Round 2 before her closing 70 saw her wrap up a four-stroke win at -11 for the championship. Her nearest challenger was home club favourite Belinda Ji, who finished at -7. You can view the final leaderboard here.
Her Concord Cup win was the culmination of several weeks’ consistent golf from Teasdale, who has been there or thereabouts in most events she has teed up in in 2023. Her prior event to the Concord Cup saw her secure a T20 finish in the Women’s Vic Open on the WPGA Tour, and her rock-solid form earned her a call-up to the Australia team for March’s Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) in Singapore.
Speaking about her Concord Cup success, Teasdale told GolfWA: “I was a bit nervous going into the competition because the greens at Concord are very slick and the pins were in tough positions. I tended to just play for the middle of the green and I made a lot of putts when I had the chances.”
Teasdale added that being named in the Australia team for the WAAP has done wonders for her confidence. “It’s a very big deal for me and I didn’t expect it,” she said. “It’s the first time I’ve been called up by Golf Australia and it has given me a bit of extra motivation.”
