Royal Fremantle’s Abbie Teasdale will get a shot at regional glory after being named in the Australia team for March’s Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP).
The 72-hole stroke play tournament takes place at Singapore Island Golf Club from March 9-12, with 20-year-old Teasdale – the 2022 English Ladies’ Amateur Championship winner – one of six players in the Australian team. It will be her first appearance at the event.
Despite being in fine, consistent form throughout the Australian summer, Teasdale was surprised and delighted to learn of her selection. “I couldn’t believe it when I found out,” she said. “I’ve been to Asia before and really liked the food, the golf courses, everything, so I’m really excited to head back there.”
GolfWA High Performance Athlete Teasdale is joined in the Australia team by Victorians Keeley Marx and Jazy Roberts, South Australian Caitlin Peirce, and Queensland duo Sarah Hammett and Justice Bosio. Peirce, Hammet and Bosio all represented Australia in the 2022 championship, with Bosio the highest-placed at T19th, 9 shots behind winner Ting-Hsuan Huang of Chinese Taipei.

As well as a glut of World Amateur Golf Ranking points, the winner of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific will earn exemptions into three major championships – the AIG Women’s Open, the Chevron Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship. They will also secure a coveted invite to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Korean LPGA’s Hana Financial Group Championship.
“The opportunities available to the six players are simply incredible and we cannot wait to see them test themselves amongst a strong field,” said Brad James, Golf Australia’s General Manager High Performance.
“The squad is youthful with Justice and Keeley only recently emerging from the junior ranks, Sarah and Jazy are still juniors themselves, and Caitlin and Abbie are only 20. That’s very exciting because they bring a fresh energy and they’re hungry to learn, improve and perform.”
