Harvey Golf Club’s Michael Lucas and Lake Karrinyup’s Carmen Palframan have sailed through the 54th hole at Gosnells Golf Club to take out the 2021 Senior Amateur Championship titles by astonishing margins.
Harvey’s Michael Lucas produced outstanding tournament golf, dominating the men’s leaderboard since day one. Lucas carded 68’s in his first two rounds, and today remained steady and focussed to secure the win by thirteen strokes over 2019 WA Senior Amateur Champion NSW’s Ken Brewer.
I haven’t been in this position before and I know it came down to keeping my mind focussed today. So thrilled with the win and I really can’t believe it. You really feel the pressure going into that final round when you have a lead,” shared Lucas.
Michael’s three cards are certainly not a rainbow of colours, with only six bogeys (no doubles +) over three days. This is a serious display of consistency, talent and commitment on this challenging championship course.
The Ladies’ Championship has been tightly contested all week, but winner Carmen Palframan never slipped from the top tier. Carmen was level pegged with fellow club member Peta Roberts at the final turn, incentivizing Palframan to make her charge. Blemish free in her final nine until the last hole, Palframan drove into the sunset to win by an incredible nine strokes.
Palframan shared, “I was level with Peta after nine today so I really had to turn my head around. I don’t think I have ever been so exhausted after this amount of golf in the last ten days.” Palframan has claimed a double, winning the Bowra & O’Dea Senior Classic 54 hole event last week, coupled with the WA 2021 Senior Amateur title. 144 holes of golf in ten days is big. We are not talking stableford, not match play, but stroke play. Do the numbers. This is a sensational effort by Carmen and the wonderful group that have joined her in these competitions. Thank you, ladies, the spirit you have played this golfing marathon in has been a pleasure to watch and support. Each and every one of you should be proud cross the finish line.
Over one hundred ladies and gentlemen contested this year’s Senior Amateur title over three days hosted by Gosnells Golf Club. It was great to hear the banter in the beautiful clubrooms at Gosnells after the three day event…
Thanks to Neil and the guys for a terrific few days of golf
I really enjoyed meeting some of the new players, particularly the guys that are from NSW. I was lucky to play with them for two days, they were great..
I enjoyed my first Senior Am, its been a long time coming! It is the only tournament I have ever been called “junior” or “rookie” which is a bit of fun.
Many thanks to Gosnells Golf Club for generously hosting the WA 2021 Senior Amateur, and warmly welcoming our local and interstate competitors to your magnificent course.
