Regional Seniors Day 1 Wrap

7th May 2021

Day 1 of the 2021 Regional Seniors kicked off yesterday at a pristine Manjimup Golf Club. A field of over 150 ladies teed off over the course of morning and afternoon. The youngest in the field at an age of 60 and the oldest playing unhindered at 92, some great golf was played wherever you looked. There seems to be the thought that the field will even up today after the afternoon session’s players had slightly more success as they escaped the dew. Lake Karrinyup’s Jane Abbott led yesterday’s morning players with a score of 34 and Geraldton’s Christine Beije led the way in the afternoon with a score of 37 on Day 1 of this year’s stableford event.

The course took its fair share of victims as the greens appeared slower than usual here, catching more than a few players out when putting. It was the long and straight holes of 6 and 10 that caught players out as the thick rough’s of this Manjimup course got a workout. Our preview thanks to course favourite, Ray Curo, seems to be on the money as players were caught out overshooting the greens and finding themselves having to climb over the hills above. However, the ladies had no trouble finding the right layup as they navigated their approach with precision.

“The course is absolutely gorgeous and it’s a pleasure to play here as it always is. The ladies have upped their game this year and there seems to be some great golf being played” said one of the ladies, reflecting on yesterday’s play at last night’s dinner and presentations.

Last night’s dinner was another highlight in itself. The 80’s disco theme certainly did not fail to impress with some great outfits of all bright colours that took the dancefloor deep into the night, much to the spirit that is this Regional Seniors event. However without question the absolute highlight was the ABBA revival performed by the Manjimup crew which kick started a great night and drew huge applause and a great video.
