2021 Sanwell Cottesloe Open

20th May 2021

The 2021 Sanwell Cottesloe Open commences this weekend with a strong field of leading amateur and professionals golfers competing for this highly sought after PGA West Australian title. The field are hungry to join the likes of Terry Gale, Graham Marsh, Rick Kulacz and Ritchie Smith on the Honour Board, and it has been over ten years since one of the amateur contenders has won the title. This year, with the depth of talent in the amateur field, it is anyones guess who can dominate the challenging fairways and greens of the magnificent Cottesloe course.

PGA Professional Brett Rumford, amongst others such as Victorian Andrew Martin, will be tightly matched up against the WA local amateur talent. Cottesloe’s young gun Michael Hanrahan-Smith has been in outstanding form this year, and counts these fairways as his home away from home. Michael performed exceptionally in some challenging conditions earlier this year in the in the 2021 Australian Amateur Championships at Kooyunga Golf Club achieving T3 in a highly competitive field. 2020 Nexus Risk WA Open Champion, Hayden Hopewell, alongside 2021 WA Amateur Champion Aldrich Potgieter and runner up Haydn Barron will be hot contenders in the mix. Lake Karrinyup’s Joe Owen is currently showing strong steady form, evident in his Division One pennant run of late and history in this event.

Royal Fremantle’s Abbie Teasdale will join her brother Joe competing for the Kelly Rogers Medal awarded to the leading amateur in the tournament, commemorating the great late Cottesloe Champion Kelly Rogers, who won the first four Cottesloe Opens and seven in all.

The public are welcomed to enjoy some first class golf and warm hospitality offered at Cottesloe Golf Club this weekend, embracing the 73 year history of this inaugural event. Entry and parking will be free to the public, and we ask politely that club dress codes are adhered to in the clubhouse facilities.
