The 2021 Aglime of Australia Rural Bronze heads up to the Jurien Bay Country Golf Club from the 25th to the 27th of June with a full field of more than 130 entrants and a sold-out Saturday night dinner, showcasing both the event and location’s popularity.
The excellent sandgreens of Jurien Bay await the huge field, who will be looking to chase down last year’s winner Dianne Warburton from the Wandering Golf Club. Dianne won last year’s event which was held in Donnybrook and will look to enjoy this year’s edition of the Rural Bronze just as much. A large contingent of women from neighbouring Turquoise Coast clubs, highlight the strength of golf in the area.
The winner of the 36 Hole Event will be awarded the Lady Court Trophy, a prestigious trophy that holds significance for many in the WA golfing community. In 1982, while her husband, Sir Charles Court was Premier of Western Australia, Lady Rita Court, a keen club golfer, became our Patroness, a position she held for 10 years. She displayed a keen interest in golf in this State, and in particular the Rural Bronze event, having attended the inaugural event at Cervantes in 1990. Herself a Bronze player she decided she would like to present a perpetual trophy for this division. Mrs Dawn Moore (Vice President) suggested a Crystal Rose Bowl and the Stuart Crystal Bowl was presented for the first time by Lady Court at Bridgetown in 1992.
There’ll be plenty to do off the golf course before and after the event with Jurien and surrounding towns boasting some fantastic natural wildlife, food and attractions. If you’ve had a tough day on the course, simply take a stroll along the beaches within the Sandy Cape Recreation Park, if that doesn’t cure your bogey-fever, the sight of sea lions surely will. Don’t miss out on the chance to indulge in some of the fish and chips in WA either, you’ll have plenty to choose from in town.
Not to be forgotten about, the always popular Canadian Foursomes team event will feature slightly over 60 teams. The event will once again be played preceding the 36 Hole Rural Bronze tournament. These teams will play off for the Gladys Hawkes Shield. Miss Gladys Hawkes was State Handicapper for 22 years. She was very concerned for the country golfer and initiated Executive representation in Country areas at her own expense. Gladys lived and breathed golf for country people and did all she could to help them in any way possible. This trophy was donated by the country players as a mark of respect and appreciation and was contributed to by players from all over the country. Miss Hawkes was given Life Membership in 1979 and died in 1989.
