As the year begins to come to an end, we look forward to next year’s preparation for the Interstate series. We are delighted to confirm and appoint our Interstate coaches.
Alex McKay will head up both the Open and Junior Interstate Series teams. Andrew MacAuslan will bring a wealth of experience to the Junior Interstate Squads as a non-travelling coach after his Interstate experiences with NT previously. Having 2 coaches for the junior squad and team allows selected athletes compete and train for interstate team selection and also nurtures the depth of talent we have in our junior squads for the future. Alex is a Teaching Professional at Mount Lawley Golf Club whilst Andrew plies his trade at the Perth Golf Centre out of WAGC.
The 2022 Junior Girls team (which included Amie Phobubpa, Sheridan Clancy, Celine Chen, and Jorja Hinson-Tolchard), took out the girl’s side of the Junior Interstate Series. Agonisingly, the overall team fell 0.5 of a point short of taking out the entire Interstate series.
Alex McKay described the 2022 junior series as ‘extremely special’ and was incredibly proud of the culture they had managed to foster through the week. It is no doubt that Andrew and Alex will develop this mentality and shape the teams toward success at Tasmania Golf Club in April.
The Open age bracket also faired well at the Interstate series finishing behind Victoria and South Australia in third position. Both McKay and MacAuslan will be hoping to build on 2022 and have even more success for 2023 in Tasmania (Juniors) and New South Wales (Open).
