The following was announced this afternoon via Premier Mark McGowan’s Facebook page regarding the easing of Covid restrictions in Perth;
Following no further local cases being found in WA overnight, I can now confirm restrictions in Perth and Peel will ease again at midnight tonight.
As flagged on Friday, some transitional restrictions will remain in place for a further six days, from 12:01am tomorrow (Tuesday 6 July) through to 12:01am on Monday 12 July.
However, with strong testing results over the weekend, we’ve now received updated health advice that will allow us to move to even lighter transitional restrictions than those announced last week.
From midnight tonight:
- Masks will remain mandatory for indoor public venues, including in the workplace and on public transport. Exemptions apply including for medical reasons and primary school aged children or younger.
- Masks will no longer be required in outdoor public spaces where physical distancing is possible or when undertaking vigorous exercise indoors or outdoors. People should use common sense and take a mask with them whenever they leave home.
- 30 person limit in all homes for indoor private gatherings and 150 person limit for outdoor gatherings.
- Two square metre capacity rule and 150 patron limit applies for most venues.
- Seated entertainment venues (eg. theatres, concert halls, and cinemas) can operate at a maximum 50 per cent capacity. This also applies for major stadiums.
- Indoor and outdoor community sport can resume. Spectators will be permitted in line with the 150 person limit and two square metre rule.
- Indoor and outdoor fitness classes permitted, masks mandatory except when doing vigorous exercise. Two square metre capacity rule and 150 patron limit apply.
- Weddings and funerals permitted for up to 150 guests.
- A patient in hospital, or a person in aged care or a disability facility can have four personal visitors per day. Masks mandatory for staff and visitors.
- Anyone who has been in the Perth or Peel regions since Sunday, 27 June but has since travelled to another region must continue to wear a mask subject to the conditions which apply in Perth and Peel. However, these travellers will be permitted to visit hospitality, entertainment and recreational venues in other regions.
These changes are a significant step forward following the lockdown last week, and only possible because we’ve seen such a strong response from the community.
Following this period of transitional restrictions it is expected that Perth and Peel will return to pre-lockdown conditions from 12:01am on Monday 12 July.
As we move towards that point, it’s important that we remain vigilant. There is still a small chance that there could be COVID-19 cases out there – so we need to keep doing the right thing.
That means getting tested if you’re unwell, signing in using SafeWA or contact registers, and keeping up good personal hygiene.
