The 2021 GolfWA Provincial Tournament is well underway, with ninety six ladies dominating the township of Wongan Hills. Setting the fairways alight with their laughter and smiles, the ladies enjoyed their second day in the Wheatbelt region. The clubhouse is alive with volunteers serving hot soup and toasties, with tables magnificently decorated with local garden roses. An enormous effort by the members of Wongan Hills Golf Club to provide the warm welcome to the forty two teams entered into the Canadian Foursomes Competition that kicked off the weekend.
Yesterday, conditions were a little challenging for the Canadian Foursomes, but it gave many of the ladies competing in the 36 hole Provincial event an opportunity to play the course and experience the sand greens.

Saturday brought sunshine and crisp still air, perfect conditions offering the ladies no excuses for golf perfection. Many pronounced to having “perfect company in lieu of the perfect golf”, however, there were some exceptional scores with some familiar and new names at the top of the leaderboard going into tomorrow’s final round.
2019 Provincial Champion Denmark’s Marion Nelson sits top of the gross leaderboard by an impressive five strokes over Rockingham’s Melissa Luk, Corrigan’s Jeannie Szczecinski and and WAGC’s Jenny Fallows. Marion shot an impressive 78 today, an encouraging start for a grass green competitor. With nine players sitting on scores of 83,84 and 85 there will be a fierce field chasing Marion for tomorrows early start. The Provincial Cup (inaugurated at the event’s inception in 1984) is awarded to the player with the best gross score across the two rounds of stroke play and the main trophy for the event.
As the sun sets, the ladies are preparing to frock up for tonights themed dinner, and enjoy the fun and friendship this tournament thrives on. Good luck in the final round ladies and thank you Wongan Hills for the warm welcome.
