Kathryn Norris and Sheridan Clancy have taken the honours for the Women’s 2021 Amateur Foursomes Championships hosted by Lakelands Country Club today. Ryan Peake and Jose De Sousa paired up to secure the men’s title, with the competition being reduced to eighteen holes after extreme weather conditions interrupting play with freak hail.
An eagle on the eighteenth gave last years champion De Sousa and team-mate Peake the edge for a confident four stroke win over Haydn Barron and Connor Fewkes. The ladies also had a four stroke lead over last years champion Abbie Teasdale teamed up with Celine Chen.
Conditions became unplayable with branches littering the fairways, but spirits remained high in the clubhouse with all entrants smiling and offering their thanks to host club Lakelands who had an early start clearing the course after a stormy night.
Talk of the town was Tom Addy and Kirsten Rudgeley, who most certainly (if they were in town) would have been playing alongside them all today. Excitement was brewing for their friends approaching the English Amateur finals this evening.
