There’s two weeks remaining in the 2022 Men’s Pennants season and as we approach the pointy end, some teams are making it clear they will take some beating. Only four teams remain without a blemish to their 2022 record including the incredibly impressive Division One Joondalup side that have breezed past all that have stood before them so far.
The Division One reigning champions are yet to be humbled this season despite some close results against Mount Lawley, Bunbury and the WAGC. A young and undoubtedly talented brigade has lead the team through the season. Names like Connor Mckinney, Tom Addy and George Barclay are well known to those looking at results in recent GolfWA junior championships. They’ll be surely kept company however by the following pack, headed up by Lake Karrinyup and Royal Fremantle. Whilst Joondalup have a youthful exuberance leadingt heir team, it’s the old heads steering Lake Karrinyup towards another respectable Men’s Pennants season. Royal Fremantle will also look to make the most of the recent addition of 2021 WA Open winner, Hayden Hopewell, following his absence.
Royal Perth seem to be out to prove a point after losing their place in Division One last season. They join the club of sides to win all of their matches so far this season. Jordan Jung, who pends most of his year playing golf for his American college, Georgia State. Jordan has only been bested once, in his Round Four match with Lakelands’ Adam Baillie. That result also coincided with one of Royal Perth’s closest matches of the season. Hartfield lead the chasing pack behind the South Perth residents, only losing to the Division Two leaders in a close match in Round 1. The Vines, Mandurah and Lakelands make up the next group of clubs vying for position, all nestled on two wins with two weeks remaining, however, all remain behind third placed Rockingham on three wins.
It’s a small Division Three table this season with only five sides. Wanneroo and Kwinana share the top of the table currently, however, Kwinana do have a game in hand having already had their bye. Sea View and Sun City currently sit in the next two position on the table. Sun City are coming off an impressive win on their home track against the division leaders, suggesting that this race could feature more than two runners.
Of the lower divisions, Lake Karrinyup lead the North Division Four, followed by WAGC an Mount Lawley locked on 3 wins apiece from their five matches. Whilst Royal Fremantle lead the South Division Four and Royal Perth and Bunbury chase at their heels in the minor placings. Royal Perth certainly won’t be counting themselves out after they defeated the table leaders in Round Four at home.
The Vines and the first of the two Royal Fremantle teams lead their respective Division Five tables with two weeks to go. The northern edition side of this division looks to be the tightest battle of all as their is only three points separating The Vines and currently bottom-placed Cottesloe side. Meanwhile, the chasing pack in the Southern competition looks to be a tight race between Mandurah, Bunbury, Gosnells and Hartfield. All four of those teams will have at least one match against another as the next two weeks will sort out that pack.
