Women’s Pennants moved past the halfway stage of the 2022 season over the weekend. The race at the top is tight in all six divisions, including four divisions that currently see a tie between the top two, whilst the other two divisions see the top two separated by only one point.
In Division One, Mount Lawley sits atop, separated from Royal Perth by for/against differential. They will meet in this weekend’s round of the competition in a match that could very well decide the final table. WAGC closely follows the top two, their only defeat of the season coming against Royal Perth, 5-2. Lake Karrinyup, Royal Fremantle and Cottesloe round out the top division with the former two clubs yet to register a win this season.
Another tight tussle at the top is being played out in Division Two, with four teams separated by two points. Joondalup sits atop after dominating their matches so far despite halving the one match due to rain. Mount Lawley heads a group of three clubs chasing Joondalup, including Lake Karrinyup and The Vines who sit third and fourth respectively. Wanneroo and Royal Perth have one win each to their name after Royal Perth stunned Mount Lawley last week. Whilst it’s a winless Mandurah that sit at the bottom of the table.
Four teams are jostling for positions in a smaller Division Three this season. Round 1 was called off due to torrential rain that saw Gosnells Golf Club underwater. Round 2 at Nedlands, brought the first results of the season. Melville Glades defeated the WAGC 5-2 on the back of a strong first match win by Leanne McVey. The other match of the day went down to the wire, seeing Nedlands defeat Gosnells, 4-3, on their home course.
It’s looking like a battle of the big clubs in Division Four. Lake Karrinyup, WAGC, Royal Perth and Royal Fremantle are currently separated by two points, with the upcoming round set to possibly shape the table. Royal Fremantle will take on top side Lake Karrinyup as a 2nd vs 3rd matchup sees WAGC taking on Royal Perth. Wanneroo and Lakelands have one win apiece, whilst Mount Lawley currently sit last, looking for their first win.
Division Five looks to be the tightest of all the divisions. Royal Fremantle currently sits on top, undefeated, however they’re only three points ahead of fifth placed Cottesloe. The two sides halved their matchup over the weekend, showing how close this division is. Gosnells, Sea View and Melville Glades sit second, third and fourth. The Vines and Joondalup sit in the final two positions, searching for their first wins of the year.
Finally, Division Six sees Royal Fremantle on top, however WAGC currently sit second with a game in hand and on the same amount of points. Wanneroo lead the chasing pack with two wins from their four matches. The Vines, Cottesloe, Lakelands and Nedlands al stranded on three points with one win each. This week’s matches see WAGC playing Nedlands, Royal Fremantle against Wanneroo and Lakelands taking on Cottesoe at The Vines.
