A beautiful sunny April day with barely a hint of an easterly greeting the players for day two of this year’s Senior Amateur Championship of WA, at Lakelands Country Club.
Many players commented that they were enjoying the course however the two nines were playing differently, with the greens running faster on the back nine compared to the front.
Consistency is the key with the men as Nigel Barnes (Wanneroo) is leading after the first two days with rounds of 72 and 74 (146 total), one ahead of Rick Mckenna (Mount Lawley) with rounds of 73 and 74 (147 total). But talking about consistency, Ken Brewer (Newcastle Golf Club), 2021 NSW Order of Merit winner, is hovering back with two rounds of 74 (148 total). Now that Ken has a good understanding of where to go and not go on the course it will be game on tomorrow.
Leading the nett in the men is still first round leader Robert Teunissen (Geraldton) with 67 and 74 nett (149 total). If Robert plays as well as he did in the first round, he might take it all out.
Steadying the ship today in the women’s field is our present leader Sue Wooster (The National) bringing in a 76, to go with her 80 on day one (156 total). However, Robyn Lamb (Lake Karrinyup) is charging up the leaderboard with a 79 today (163 total) to get one shot in front of Janice Gaudet who is coming in third gross. Janice is leading the women in the nett with 74 and 76 (150 total). However, both Robyn and Janice will need to produce something special tomorrow to catch up to Sue.
