Eighty four youngsters braved wild wet conditions at Capel Golf Club today for the start of the 2021 Drummond Golf 54-hole Junior Classic. This world ranking event attracts talent from all over the state with competitors supported by parents and friends, showing great resilience and character to finish the first round all smiles.
Lake Karrinyup’s Sheridan Clancy, fresh from a restful fortnight of quarantine, sits equal top of the girl’s leaderboard with Joondalup’s Mia Lawson, both carding an impressive 73, three strokes ahead of their closest competitor Jorja Hinson-Tolchard.
Royal Fremantle’s Joe Teasdale shares the lead in the boy’s competition with Mandurah’s Logan Vidovich and Joondalup’s Ian Pienaar. Vidovich managed to hole out for eagle on the 5th, getting his second shot right of the green and a confident chip in to jump up the leaderboard. Previous winner Mount Lawley’s Joe Buttress sits narrowly behind by two strokes, alongside promising thirteen year old Mandeep Singh from Royal Fremantle and WA’s Riley Gott.
The Crunch & Sip South West Classic is running alongside the 54-hole event, offering youngsters developing their game to participate in a 9 hole Stableford competition, or modified stroke and tiger tee event. The Crunch and Sippers’ did themselves proud today, showing great promise in their golf, and most importantly great sportsmanship and kindness to fellow competitors.
