The 2019 School Sport WA GolfWA Secondary School Championship attracted a strong field of 127 entries from high schools around the state. Not surprisingly these competitive and talented teens opted for a day on magnificent Royal Fremantle Golf Club, rather than hitting the school books.
The Championship attracts both new and experienced golfers with a focus on participation, teamwork and a positive sporting experience.
Como Secondary College took top honours by winning the School Teams Championships Shield. Congratulations to Harrison Andreou, Randell Heng and Zach McLean from Como Secondary College with an outstanding score of 77, narrowly defeating Melville Senior High School on 76 points.
The Independent Schools Trophy was taken home by the boys from Mandurah Catholic College, Alex Maxwell and Brandon Napoli. Alex is clearly suited to his new home club Royal Fremantle, also succeeding in taking out the Boys Overall Gross Medal with a healthy round of 70. Valerie Khuu from Willeton Senior High School narrowly defeated Minke Terblanche from Como on a countback to secure the Girls Overall Gross with 79.
Following the Championships, School Sport WA was delighted to present the WA State School Team who will compete in the National School Teams Championship later this month in Mandurah. This is an exciting time for these youngsters who have proven a consistent level of performance, team spirit and participation to join this elite team.
