2019 Provincial Tournament proves a fun time for all

15th Jul 2019

Northam Country Club (NCC) welcomed one hundred ladies this weekend at the annual Golf WA Women’s Provincial tournament. Inaugurated in 1984, the Provincial has historically provided an opportunity for regional clubs to host a wonderful weekend of friendship, golf, and fun.

This weekend was no exception.

Marion Nelson from Denmark Country Club (DCC) could not put a foot wrong to secure her well-deserved win of the 2019 Provincial Trophy. After a close weekend of Stroke play competition alongside lead group Melissa Luk (Harvey Golf Club), Robin Edwards (Western Australia Golf Club) and Robin Woods(Chequers), Marion played consistently in the second round to secure her win over Melissa by two strokes. Melissa will undoubtedly be cursing that OB on the sixth for years to come!

Jill Holmes of Mingenew Golf Club had an outstanding final round to secure the Adele Ludeman Trophy (Best Sand Green Player over 36 Holes Gross). Jill clocked a sensational 64 Nett on the final day.

Everything just seemed to work today, the ball actually did what I told it to!

Alongside these outstanding scores, Jan Walker from Mandurah Country Club (MCC) quietly popped in a hole in one on the 12th, her first. Screams alerted marshals to a possible emergency, only to be greeted by the joyous four sharing in Jan’s success. Congratulations Jan, your pure joy was a pleasure to see.

Wendy Joad (Esperance GC) and Dorothy Laffin (Albany GC)topped it off with eagles on this weekend of outstanding golf.

A Doctors and Nurses themed dinner took place on Saturday evening, with a magnificent spread provided by local business Hill Catering, a branch of charity Fresh Start’s rehabilitation unit based in Northam. Manager of the Northam facility, Tina Gunter thanked the local community for their support and opportunity this is giving young men to recover from addiction and rejoin the workforce.

“Donna’s Frock”- a fundraising objective inaugurated by Donna Crouch for the Royal Flying Doctor, has raised more than $25,000 in the past 16 years provided much entertainment to the Saturday evening Provincial crowd. Thank you, Donna, you are a natural on the stage and your support for these events is appreciated. Watch out for Alison Oliver of The West Australian Golf Club (WAGC) in the Perth social pages this year, custodian of the frock until 2020. She rocked this frock.

We are very grateful to the warm welcome, fantastic hospitality and golf provided by our generous hosts Northam Golf Club. This was a team effort with great community spirit and support.

Golf WA looks forward to welcoming entrants to the 2020 Provincial – bring it on Hopetoun!
